Why you should join us

Like you, we’re really keen to realise the potential of every community sports club

What do our members say?

“Two years ago Sevenoaks Rugby Club made a conscious decision to increase the sponsorship revenue and we asked committee member, Roger McKerlie, to deliver this as far as possible. Given Roger’s sports marketing background and considerable knowledge of grass roots sponsorship he was ideally placed to do this. He also possesses the personality, character and determination so to do.

Roger designed and managed our current, high successful strategy which has seen revenues increase dramatically. He also has harnessed and grown the relationships with existing sponsors. One key element he insisted upon was that increasing commercial revenue was a team responsibility and not just the burden for one individual. As a result we recruited a paid executor to sell and deliver sponsorship which has proved a good investment.

I cannot recommend Roger’s approach highly enough and would recommend you join Club Champions if you wish to grow your revenue and work with an engaging and driven individual.”
Michael Wooldridge, Sevenoaks RFC President

Club Champions is the business club for community sports clubs

It exists to help community sports clubs in the UK to increase revenue from the commercial sector and to become sustainable for the long term.

Whatever the financial position of your club ( I know some clubs are in debt whilst others are ambitious to grow) our aim is to share the knowledge and experience we have built up over 15 years of running a marketing consultancy in the community sport sector and from managing the commercial programme for Sevenoaks Rugby Club.

I know first-hand what community sport can do for society. I have seen it change gang culture; I have seen it break down race and faith barriers; I have seen it create life-long friendships, replace suspicion with trust and I have seen it bring joy to the places where people live their lives.

But it needs funding and, in today’s uncertain climate, it is no longer enough for community sport to rely on hand outs and largesse from trusts and branches of government, although Sport England’s “Made by sport” programme looks promising.

To succeed you need to engage business.

Business has the money that community sport needs to thrive and be sustainable, but you need to know how to access it. You need to know what business wants from community sport – often you must tell business what it can get from community sport – and you need to know how to deliver on your promise.

When you join Club Champions, you’re joining a group of people who love their sport and want to do the very best for their club. We are all working together to support, encourage and share knowledge on creating sustainable commercial income for our clubs.

Imagine if every organisation that joins could add just 20% to their commercial revenue! What would your organisation do with the money?

For those of you who get in touch with me, even just to let me know you are thinking of joining, I will send you our presentation and the first summary report on how to build and implement a commercial revenue strategy which is normally reserved for new members.
